October 8, 2009 - At 7:35am Sussex EOC alerted Station 74 (Delmar), Station 81 (Laurel), and Station 14 (Sharptown) to a reported house fire in the 4400 block of White Deer Rd. Lt. M. Skarson arrived in Command 74 to find smoke showing from the rear of the home, and assumed Command. Chief 14 (H. Bowden) was assigned Operations. Crews from Engine 14-02 and Engine 74-2 began interior attack. Crews from Engine 14-04 cut ventilation into the roof. The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene for 3 hours for overhaul. One Delmar firefighter experienced a medical emergency and was transported to PRMC by Paramedic A-74. One other patient was transported by B-81 for burns and smoke inhalation. Both patients were treated by Sussex County EMS.
