From a great foundation the Delmar Fire Department has grown, not at
the top----but still growing.
Little did anyone realize on October 16, 1921, when the Delmar Fire
Department organized that today
over seventy-five years later under the leadership of many outstanding
citizens of this community,
what the real meaning of the letters DFD would bring forth. More than
an abbreviated term for the
Delmar Fire Department, but a symbol of massed volunteer striking
power to make this community a
safer community in which to live.
Since October 1921, many Chartered and Honorary Members, as well
as today's Active Members,
have watched the Delmar Fire Department grow and grow. Over 240
members of the Delmar
community have served a year or more as members of this great
company.
Today with a membership of seventy-five Active Members, twenty
ambulance Associates and
twenty-five Ladies Auxiliary Members, they volunteer to assume
iminense responsibilities, whether it
be day or night should they be called out. Each member helping to
make the Delmar Fire Department
serve as one of the best fire departments on the Eastern Shore.
From a small building on State Street to the current building at the
corner of Bi-State Blvd. & Grove
Street----from one small piece of equipment to the 12 modern units, the
DFD has not reached the top,
but still growing.
